Image
"The most extensive of singer/songwriter Martin Newell's various projects, Cleaners from Venus recorded some of the finest -- and most neglected -- British pop/rock of the 1980s. As the chief of Cleaners from Venus, he and cohorts recorded several albums on their own, and distributed them via self-produced cassettes that were chiefly available by mail. There were thousands of such acts working in this manner in the cassette underground, but most of them were either off-puttingly amateurish or forebodingly avant-garde and experimental. Cleaners from Venus were distinguished from the usual lot because they specialized in ext

Image
Rip Torn, Larry Sanders Showand Men in Black actor, dies at 88 By Lauren Huff July 09, 2019 at 11:38 PM EDT Rip Torn, the Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated actor known for his work on The Larry Sanders Show and in the Men in Black movies, has died. He was 88. His publicist confirmed to EW that Torn died Tuesday afternoon at his home with his wife, Amy Wright, and daughters Katie Torn and Angelica Page by his side. No cause of death was given. Born Elmore Rual Torn Jr. in Temple, Texas, in 1931, the actor played the loyal late-night producer Artie on Larry Sanders, which aired from 1992 to 1998 and also starred Garry Shandling and Jeffrey Tambor. Torn was nominated for six Emmys for his work on the beloved sitcom, winning in 1996. He also earned Emmy noms for The Atlanta Child Murders in 1985, Chicago Hope in 1996, and 30 Rock in 2008. His other TV credits included Law & Order: Criminal Intent, The Lyon’s Den, Will & Grace, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. In addition to

As you may have guessed from the title, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. was originally supposed to have just one star. Napoleon Solo, played by Robert Vaughn, was a Bond-esque super spy with the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement. And for the first two episodes, it was indeed a solo act (lol). Then another U.N.C.L.E. agent, the oddly spe
