Episode 36: "Illya of Arabia"

One of the most amazing screenplays by Peter Allan Fields. The concept of evil THRUSH agents retiring is not new, but the idea of a farewell cocktail in the "firm" is very creative and ironic.

The episode is inspired by the movie phenomenon Lawrence of Arabia (direct by David Lean, with Peter O'Toole), launched two years before, winner of seven awards Oscar. The Fields script maintains a parallel structure to great effect. For three acts, Illya lives his “Lawrence moment” living a large exotic adventure in the sands of the Sahara while Napoleon negotiates bureaucratically a retirement plan to an agent of THRUSH. In the fourth act the two very different halves of the narrative are cleverly united.
