The first movie was supposed to launch a franchise but is The Man From U.N.C.L.E. 2 still on the cards? Here's what we know about the sequel.

Fans certainly want one but what are the odds of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. 2 coming together? Guy Ritchie's filmmaking career has been a wild ride since his debut Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels arrived in 1998. He's suffered through poorly-reviewed bombs like Swept Away or King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword and bathed in the success of the Robert Downey, Jr Sherlock Holmes duology and 2019's Aladdin. Somewhere in the middle is 2015's The Man From U.N.C.L.E., his stylish spy romp starring Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. 2 Is (Apparently) Being Written

Star Armie Hammer has been a big cheerleader for a potential The Man From U.N.C.L.E. 2 and is aware of the fan demand for more 1960s spy shenanigans. In 2017 he revealed to Slashfilm he called the movie's writer/producer Lionel Wigram and asked him to just write a sequel, with Wigram reportedly agreeing. In a 2018 Collider chat, Hammer wouldn't confirm if an actual script existed, but revealed he and Wigram still "kick" around ideas. The star feels that the cast and crew would happily agree to The Man From U.N.C.L.E. 2 if it was greenlit.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. 2 (Probably) Won't Happen

Despite Armie Hammer and Guy Ritchie's enthusiasm for The Man From U.N.C.L.E. 2, the box-office numbers of the first film will be a major barrier. Put simply, it wasn't a success, and with a sequel likely demanding another healthy budget, it's doubtful Warner Bros. would see the value in a follow-up. That said, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. appears to have primarily found its audience on streaming, so perhaps Netflix or another platform could put up the money. Henry Cavill currently has a home at Netflix with The Witcher series so there's a possibility, but since there have been no hints of movement on The Man From U.N.C.L.E. 2, that's currently wishful thinking.
