Master Herald: "The Man From U.N.C.L.E. 2 being written"

Great news – one of the most underrated movies recently might be getting a sequel, according to Armie Hammer who revealed some details! To be honest, this is a surprise. After The Man From U.N.C.L.E. failed at the box office, we thought that would be the end of Guy Ritchie’s revival of this old show. It was implied that the franchise plans fell into the water after the first movie failed.
The film is really entertaining, and it deserves a sequel, and we are not the only ones with this opinion. Collider’s Steve Weintraub spoke to Armie Hammer about the actor’s new film Free Fire, and he asked what would be necessary to make The Man From U.N.C.L.E. 2 a possibility. We still have no confirmation from Warner Bros. and the fact that the first part earned only $109,8 million worldwide on a budget of $75 million isn’t really encouraging. Why would the studio decide to make a sequel?

Illya Kuryakin and his girls

Illya Kuryakin, the other UNCLE agent, was a magnet for beautiful girls. While Napoleon Solo was an assumed womanizer, Illya behaved timidly and attracted the maternal instinct of the women who crossed his path. (In the picture above, David McCallum, who played Illya, opposite his own wife in real life, Jill Ireland).

This is a clip of scenes showing Illya Kuryakin and his many girls:

The Man From UNCLE Episode 14: gipsies and fake nazis in Albania

Episode 14 of The Man From UNCLE ("The Trebuf Affair") is set in Albania. Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin are in Rome (spending a vacation) when an old Solo's flame ask him to help his husband. It is the first time the Men From UNCLE worked as free-lancers. Albania in this episode is a place for gipsies and soldiers that look a lot like nazis.

Vanity Fair: "A Man from UNCLE Sequel Is in the Works"

A Man from UNCLE Sequel Is in the Works
Star Armie Hammer breaks the news.
by
JOANNA ROBINSON APRIL 16, 2017 7:49 PM

When Guy Ritchie’s stylish Man from U.N.C.L.E. opened in 2015, it did so to middling reviews and a disappointing box office. What was clearly meant to be the start of a franchise starring Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, Hugh Grant, and, dare we even hope, Elizabeth Debicki seemed dead on arrival. But as is sometimes the case, U.N.C.L.E. seemed to find its audience once it left theaters and made its way into people’s homes. And according to Hammer, he gets asked about a sequel all the time. Well, has he got good news for you.Speaking with Jack Giroux of Slashfilm, Hammer broke some exciting news for the devoted U.N.C.L.E. fanatics out there. “I called Lionel Wigram, the producer of the movie, and he and Guy produced it and wrote it all together,” Hammer said. “I was like, ‘Dude, what’s the deal? I get asked about this shit all the time. Can you just write a sequel?’”

That’s one way to get resurrect a franchise. According to Hammer, Wigram responded: “You know what? Yeah, fuck it, I’ll do it. Sure, I’ll write a sequel.”

Of course, it’s a long road between a screenwriter saying he’ll write a sequel and that film actually getting the green light, being shot, and getting a release. But Hammer seems optimistic. He told Wigram: “If you write one, I’m sure we can get one made.” And in a certain respect, he may be right. Vikander, for one, has picked up an Oscar since she appeared as the entertaining and capable third wheel to Hammer and Cavill’s double spy act.

SlashFilm: ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ Sequel Is Being Written

‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ Sequel Is Being Written

Posted on Sunday, April 16th, 2017 by Jack Giroux

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is the kind of fun, self-aware, stylish summer popcorn movie we don’t see often enough. Director Guy Ritchie‘s adaptation of Sam Rolfe‘s television series is one charismatic film with three leads we wouldn’t mind watching save the world, in impeccable style, every couple of years. Unfortunately, the slick action-comedy didn’t perform as well as it should’ve at the box-office back in 2015, making the odds of a sequel appear unlikely.

The makers of the film are still keen on bringing back Napoleon Solo (Henry Cavill) and Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer) though. According to Hammer, the original film’s co-writer is currently writing a sequel. Below, read what the Free Fire star had to say about The Man From UNCLE sequel.

While recently speaking with Hammer, who’s well aware of how fun The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is, he mentioned he’d been asked more than a few times about playing the Russian super spy again. And then he shared with us that the film’s producer and co-writer, Lionel Wigram, is writing the sequel at the moment:

"I called Lionel Wigram, the producer of the movie, and he and Guy produced it and wrote it all together. I was like, ‘Dude, what’s the deal? I get asked about this shit all the time. Can you just write a sequel?’ He was like, ‘You know what? Yeah, fuck it, I’ll do it. Sure, I’ll write a sequel.’ I was like, ‘If you write one, I’m sure we can get one made,’ so who knows? Today is the first day I’ve actually told anyone that story. I only told one other person who asked. Apparently, the sequel is being written right now. No pressure, Lionel!"

Man From UNCLE Episode 14: The Terbuf Affair (Part 2: Alan Caillou, writer & villain)

Alan Caillou is a unique case in the UNCLE universe. In The Terbuf Affair, Caillou was at the same time the script writer and one of the actors, as the chief of secret police, Colonel Morisco. Screenwriter Caillou, author of seven The man From UNCLE episode scripts, would perform as an actor again in the episode 37, The Tigers Are Coming Affair. He was a rich caracter himself:

"Alan Caillou was the nom de plume of Alan Samuel Lyle-Smythe M.B.E., M.C. (9 November 1914 – 1 October 2006), an English born author, actor, screenwriter, soldier, policeman and professional hunter. Alan Lyle-Smythe was born in Surrey, England. Prior to World War II he served with the Palestine Police from 1936 to 1939, where he learned the Arabic language. He was awarded an MBE in June 1938. He married Aliza Sverdova in 1939, then studied acting from 1939–1941. In January 1940, Lyle-Smythe was commissioned in the Royal Army Service Corps. Due to his linguistic skills, he transferred to the Intelligence Corps and served in the Western Desert where he used the surname "Caillou" (the French word for 'stone') as an alias. He was captured in North Africa, imprisoned and threatened with execution in Italy, then escaped to join the British forces at Salerno.

After work as a District Officer in Somalia and professional hunter, Lyle-Smythe travelled to Canada, where he worked as a hunter and then became an actor on Canadian television. Moving from Vancouver to Hollywood, he made an appearance as a contestant on 23 January 1958 edition of You Bet Your Life. This was followed by many appearances as an actor as well as a screenwriter in such shows as Daktari and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Caillou wrote a variety of 52 paperback thrillers under his own name and a nom de plume of Alex Webb with such heroes as Cabot Cain, Colonel Matthew Tobin, Mike Benasque, Ian Quayle and Josh Dekker as well as writing many magazine stories. He also wrote books under female names. He died in Sedona, Arizona, United States in 2006".
