ALMOST DIRECTED: The Man From U.N.C.L.E (2015)

When Warner Bros planned to produce a film remake of the American spy series The Man From U.N.C.L.E, Steven Soderbergh was the first choice for acting as director. Soderbergh's take on the 60s Cold War setting relied on a screenplay by frequent collaborator Scott Z Burns and he had roped in his regular favorite George Clooney to star as Napoleon Solo.

However, WB limited Soderbergh's vision by sticking to a budget of $60 million. A back injury prevented Clooney from joining the project while Soderbergh tried pitching Michael Fassbender and Joel Kinnaman as leads. The studio however desired an even younger lead and the film ultimately went to Guy Ritchie with Henry Cavill playing the part of Solo.
